Distributed data extraction framework

Organisations informational asset is stored in many different ways:

• A multitude of internal and external application (containers) that users do not necessarily have access for reasons of cost (CALs) or security issues (an information need does not necessarily require access to a transactional application);

• A multitude of content formats (office suites, multimedia files, ...) requiring both applications and formats for accessing information;

• Classification systems specific to each application that complicate interoperability between different information sources.

PolySpot Silo Breaker unifies access to information by leveraging:

• a library of more than 100 connectors, facilitating the extraction of metadata and application access rules and security-related documents and records stored in enterprise applications;

• A service to convert documents, extracting metadata providing specific documents, full text and an overview.

The information extracted from source applications by the connectors are then sent to the transformation and enrichment module, PolySpot Sense Builder using a flow mode (real time) or a batch mode  through a Message Oriented Middleware. The data transmitted over the network can be encrypted if necessary to ensure their integrity during transfer (see below Security Management).

The solution is capable of handling more than 500 document formats, ensuring that applications can be changed with no threat to data access. To speed up the development of new connectors PolySpot provides a dedicated SDK, PolySpot Open Access. Deployment made easy: automatic source metadata extraction capabilities as well as highly versatile process and configuration options. High availability SOA architecture : Ability to distribute local processes close to the data sources. Synchronous and asynchronous extraction processes management. To ensure capacity scalability in environments with very high volume document and minimize strain on the LAN or WAN, the process can be located on the server or on the same LAN as the source application. Security management: PolySpot features rigorous security management functions, guaranteeing full compliance with each company's security rules. During the data extraction process, PolySpot Silo Breaker automatically inherits the security models from indexed repositories. The platform also interfaces with the company's directories (LDAP, Active Directory) and/or SSO (Single Sign On) to recover user profiles.
