The document viewer module

PolySpot Document Viewer is a document viewer module available as a add-on to the PolySpot Enterprise Search search engine.

PolySpot Document Viewer has a dual purpose

• To enable users to read more than 500 document formats without the need for the original application, by displaying the document in HTML mode with a highlight function, or by generating an image of the document;
• To minimise network traffic between the document storage site and the viewing site, using a streaming service which opens documents page by page, with no need to download the entire document.

Flexible configuration

• Prepare all pages of a document beforehand (frequently-viewed documents or documents with a high number of pages). Under this configuration, the module can be used to display document thumbnails and the total number of pages. It also allows the user to access a specific page directly ("go to page" function);
• Prepare all pages of a document when viewed for the first time, then store the results for quick access in the future;
• Load pages on the fly. Under this configuration, a document is viewed page by page in sequence (this restriction is linked to office software format limitations, not the server). The module is therefore unable to display the number of pages in the document. Users browse by moving backwards or forwards one page at a time. For faster viewing, the module can be configured to cache the previous or following "x" pages.
